Beartooth – The Academy

There’s no denying that Beartooth’s set starts with a bang. Title track of their latest album ‘The Surface,’ is first, and with an explosuve flurry of confetti the room is suddently alive. Suddenly the set whips back to 2021 favourite ‘The Past Is Dead,’ before spanning the entirety of their discography.

The crowd are loud and ready to let go. The sheer noise in the chorus of ‘Devastation’ is deafening and the constant stream of crowdsurfers keep security on their toes.

Vocalist Caleb Shomo relocates to a smaller b-stage to perform some acoustic tracks. A cover of ‘Mr Brightside’ is well received by the metalcore fans and ‘Look The Other Way’ bursts from acoustic to a full band performance.

Whether Shomo is talking about how greatful to their fanbase or telling off a guy for talking to his wife, the audience show they are well and truly on his side.

‘We are playing some old shit now for one reason only. For all of you to have the craziest time of your life.’ The final few tracks feature several earlier tracks including ‘The Lines’ and closing number ‘In Between’ give the audience an opportunity to do just that. The sea of voices echo the closing notes as the venue begins to empty and out onto the streets.
