Defects – The Flapper

Knife Bride from Brighton are first on stage tonight. The Flapper is already full enough that there is barely room to move, so it’s looking like the start of a chaotic night! Intent on getting the crowd moving, they open the show with some heavy riffs with the dance moves to match. They get a good reception from the packed crowd who are treated to some brand new music and although they don’t succeed in getting a full blown mosh pit going, there are some solid dance moves being thrown that many support acts would be proud to see.

Next up is Profiler. Things take a step up now on the heaviness scale. Describing their song ’93,’ as ‘super bouncy,’ they manage to get the crowd jumping along to their nu-metal riffs, but their final song of the night gets the first mosh pit goin. Their debut album comes out early next year, and based on tonight it’s clearly got a readily waiting audience.

And then it’s time for Defects. Coming on to a chant of their name, they immediately turn the entire room into a destructive whirlpool of moshing! It’s their final night of tour, and both them and the audience are giving it their all.

Despite the slightly too low ceiling (they have to crouch slightly to jump onto the platforms at the front of stage), they aren’t shy about putting all of their remaining energy into this performance. And whether it’s vocalist Tony Maue finally cutting his hand on the ceiling beams or guitarist Luke Genders triumphantly finishing the set by performing a guitar solo on the shoulders of a moshing fan, it’s safe to say they’ll be waking up feeling drained today!
