Tonight is a big one for The Clause. Not only is it the final night of their Weekend Millionaire tour, it’s also their hometown show.
The local lads have travelled far and wide, to the unknown depths of the UK (eg. Newcastle), but the grand finale takes place in jolly old Digbeth. And not only are they playing the main room of The Institute, they’ve only gone and sold it out!
From the second they enter the stage, the Friday night energy explodes. The lyrics of ‘Fake It’ are screamed back at them by what sounds like a football stadium full of people.
Their set bounces from upbeat numbers that make the floor shake from jumping (‘I Don’t Care’) to sensitive slow jams (‘Where Are You Now?’) And while Friday 13th might be unlucky for some, it doesn’t dampen the spirit of tonight! Every guitar riff is enthusiastically bellowed as loudly as the amplifiers, cowboy hats are thrown on stage and a present wielding Christmas elf goes for a crowd surf.
They 5-piece indie rockers seem genuinely taken aback at the response from this tour. With the majority of dates selling out, it’s their longest run of shows to date. The night finishes with 2019 single ‘In My Element,’ a feel-good romp with a perfect Friday night feel.
‘Thank you Birmingham,’ front man Pearce Macca shouts as the closing notes ring out. ‘We’ll see you at the o2 Academy.’ And from the sheer buzz of the room, you can tell we will!
