It may be Valentine’s Day, but tonight is far from a night of love. It’s a night of absurdity, kicked off by Klass from Stuttgart.
An eccentric force, he combines beat-boxing, storytelling and loop pedals into a unique, and at times unsettling, opening performance. His tales of woe feature getting high with Creepy Dan and having sex with someone dressed as his Dad. But things still get weirder once he clocks the man dressed as a Nun in the front row…
There’s a genuine groan of sadness when Klauss leaves the stage (the highest prestige for an opening act) but things are only just starting to get strange here!
Unfortunately, the next thing we’re told is that we’re all dead and in purgatory (sigh). Fortunately, the Right Reverend Michael Alabama and The Hail Marys are here to guide us on our afterlife journey.
The best way to describe this show is utter carnage and confusion for anyone who didn’t know what they were attending. But somewhere between sermons, preaching and strong vocals from The Hail Marys, you realise this is a genius formula.
New single ‘The Shuffle’ gets band and crowd dancing alike. There’s almost too much going on in a small space – I can’t help but wonder how the performance will grow as the venue size does.
It’s tricky to write a review for a show like this, because I’m conscious that OMGITC are probably the better when you don’t know what to expect. But when (and it needs to be when and not if) you catch them, bring with you a list of your sins and some shoes you can dance in. Because this fun-fuelled night of groovy tunes and well-oiled dance routines is not something you should miss!
