Things start upbeat tonight with support act Ben Kidson. He entertains with his cheeky yet uplifting brand of pop-punk. Whether he’s showing off his vocal talent on a cover of ‘Torn’ or transposing the saxophone solo from ‘Shiver’ onto guitar, it’s clear he’s winning over the crowd.
Hobo Johnson almost bursts out onto the stage. The audience have been shouting his name non-stop for the last 15 minutes, and he’s not nervous to show that he’s as excited as they are.
His slightly awkward disposition is endearing, and his odd chatter in between songs ranges from car mechanics to the Spanish Civil War. Although slightly confused, the crowd cheer him on regardless.
While some artists are better keeping to their older hits, introducing ‘Jansports’ from his latest album ‘Hobo Johnson Alienates His Fanbase‘ (2021) gets one of the biggest receptions of the night.
There’s talk of the Spanish Civil War, an impromptu performance of Wonderwall and a whole lot of hype building up to break-throught hit ‘Peach Scone’ (including a discussion on the the scone as in none or scone as in cone discourse that is all to prevalent in society). Overall, it’s what you expect from Hobo Johnson!
