It may be 23 years since Feeder’s album ‘Comfort In Sound’ was released, but it’s never been played live in it’s entirety. The album was re-released last month featuring some new arrangements of favourite tracks, and with their sell-out tour of the UK, you could be forgiven for thinking you’d just climbed out of a time machine to the early noughties!
The first half of the set is, as advertised, a re-vivst of CIS, played full and in album order. Opening track ‘Just The Way I’m Feeling’ gets a warm reception, and although some album tracks are clearly more popular than others, the crowd seem to truly appreciate the celebration of the album.
‘It’s been an emotional journey for us, revisiting these songs,’ vocalist Grant Nicholas tells us. But the volume that the audience sing back to them prove they’re not alone in feeling this way.
However, the more casual fans may have enjoyed the second half of the set more. After a brief break, Nicholas returns solo for an acoustic versions of ‘High,’ – a sing-a-long anthem practically designed for a Saturday night. He is re-joined by the rest of the band for the remainder of the set which appeases the sold-out Academy with crowd favourites including ‘Feeling A Moment’ and ‘Opaque.’
It takes barely a few strums of of ‘Buck Rogers’ for an eruption of glee that reaches the back of the room and as the final notes of closing track ‘Just A Day’ ring out, crowd members can be heard singing the guitar riff as they disperse in the streets surrounding the Academy.
