Bury Tomorrow – o2 Institute Birmingham

I don’t think I’m alone when I say that Sunday nights have never been my favourite for gigs. My mind is preoccupied with the thought of work in the morning, I’m overthinking all the chores I didn’t have time for and normally want to be ready for bed by 9. But not all concerts are made to be equal, and you can sometimes catch one that makes it all worth it.

With 3 support acts (Nevertel, Lionheart and Siamese), it’s been a long night before Bury Tomorrow make it to the stage, but there is no sign of the crowd energy dwindling. The room is hot, the front row look sweaty, but we’re all more than ready!

The energy that they burst on stage with is enough to power the room. This year brought us Bury Tomorrow’s latest album ‘Will You Haunt Me, With That Same Patience’  which is represented in their setlist along with old favourites.

Not afraid to shy away from the tricky topics, vocalist Dani Winter-Bates highlights the importance of the recent World Mental Health Day. A cause he has championed for years within the metal scene, it is refreshing to hear such support for a serious topic.

The set is short but sweet, rounding off after a neat 75 minutes. Not only does this provide an opportunity to get tucked into bed at a reasonable time, it proves you don’t need a 3 hour set to make an impact.
