The ‘Unsigned and Dangerous’ tour has reached Birmingham, but no need to be worried…the only thing risk High Fade pose is a well spent Friday night!
From the opening notes of ‘I Hate This Road,’ it almost impossible to stop from dancing. The funky bass lines and retro riffs perfectly contrast to the laid back simplicity of their performance.
In the year since the release of ‘Life’s Too Fast,’ High Fade have visited Birmingham twice now, moving up a venue size as demand has grown. But favourites from the album such as ‘666999’ are still very well received.
We slow things down with the sexy and groovy ‘Healer,’ – a recent re-addition to the setlist due to popular demand – before picking back up again with the toe-tapping ‘Burnin.’
‘Fur Coat’ is quite literally the song that keeps going, but between Oliver Sentance’s hypnotic bass lines kept the dancing going.
‘Do you want to hear the gossiiiiiip?’ newly appointed Drummer Heath Campbell asks. Harry Valentino immediately launches into the fast-fingered guitar riff.
When ‘Bone To Pick’ is played, the air is a sea of arms moving to the left, to the middle, to the right…
Early days throwbacks like ‘Swamp’ and ‘The Jam’ are clearly remembered fondly. The Friday feeling is well and truly in force here in Digbeth, and this young band are here to enjoy it. They’ve told us that it’s their first Birmingham crowd that’s too big to see the whole of, but I can only see it getting bigger!
